What Does Your UPS Status Mean?
Every UPS tracking status decoded — and what to do next.
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Order Processed: Ready for UPS | Shipping label created by the sender. UPS has not physically received the package yet. | Wait 24 h for a physical scan. Contact the sender if nothing changes after 48 h. |
| Pickup Scan | UPS driver scanned the package at pickup. Transit has officially started. | Normal — no action needed. |
| In Transit | Package is moving through the UPS network between facilities. | Normal. Ground shipments may go 24–48 h without a scan between hubs. |
| Out for Delivery | Package is on the delivery vehicle and scheduled for delivery today. | Expect delivery within hours. Be available if a signature is required. |
| Delivered | Package was scanned as delivered at your address. | Check door, mailbox, and neighbours. If missing after 24 h, file a claim at ups.com. |
| Delivery Attempt Failed | UPS attempted delivery but could not complete it — no one home or access issue. | Check for an InfoNotice left by the driver. Reschedule or redirect via ups.com. |
| Exception | An unexpected event is preventing delivery — weather, incorrect address, or customs hold. | Read the specific exception sub-status and follow the resolution steps in My UPS. |
| Transferred to Post Office | UPS SurePost shipment has been handed to USPS for final-mile delivery. | Track using the USPS tracking number shown on the UPS page, or check USPS.com. |
| Returned to Sender | UPS could not deliver and is returning the package to the shipper. | Contact the sender for a reship or refund. |
